A Great American Magazine Reborn : Keep Watch
I've had the good fortune of acting as Creative & Art Director for URB Magazine for the past two Issues. Myself and Partner David Gensler had been asked to bring new life to this great american magazine. The entire KDU team was mobilized to transform this seminal music journal. I've personally put these issues together, page by painstaking page. Please take a look at some examples of our labour; but remember that there is much more to come...

buenos aires fotografias
Que Barbaro! : El Lex en Buenos Aires keeps a vigilant lens.
I stay Focused in them streets & Heavy en Los Boliches + Bailantas.
Take a look at my Complete Vision of the Argentine Capital.
My compulsion to capture the continuum of my experience in Buenos Aires has left me with thousands of images, Detailing Every Moment of my Enamorment with the City of my Birth. I've had the fortune of experiencing in BA that which is oftentimes hard to find here in New York - a sense of genuine familiarity.
Here for your vicarious enjoyment are the images which best express all that is to be had in Buenos Aires. Here's a finely styled presentation of my experience.

buenos aires adored

Borges : Las Calles de Buenos Aires
Ya son mi entraña . No las ávidas calles, incómodas de turba y ajetreo,
Sino las calles desganadas del barrio, casi invisibles de habituales.
Buenos Aires is a city of Iconic Contradictions. She is Antiquarian, but Youthful. She is Poor, but Extravagant. She has been Humbled, but remains Proud. She carries herself with the elegance and culture of well-heeled, couture fitted woman who'll dance unabashedly to the grinding rhythm of a Cumbia Villera beat. Before one knows what to make of her, she sweeps you up in a dance of emotion and passion as exhilarating as the Tango she made famous - and just like that, I'm caught up in a love affair with the city of Buenos Aires.
I find myself overlooking a city which has written itself into my own family's history.
This is the city from which I came, but never had the chance to really know. There is more to this enamorment than the simple Adoration of a City and it's People. It's more than just the seductive and rich history this city shows with every breath. For me it's been about understanding the fundamentality of Family and the sincerity of a connection which at times may seem imperceivable, but in reality never fades. Through the blanket of a Primavera Llovizna ( Spring Mist ) I can see a city which has always held a place in my past - but now which I hope will always have a place in my future.
I've experienced much in my time so far in Buenos Aires. I've amassed a sizable amount of images - viewed best as captured moments of a continuum, rather than static frames. I'd love to share with you some of the sites which have defined my time here in Argentina. There's much, much, much more for me to talk about - but I'll hold my tongue for another time. I offer you here a look into my Buenos Aires.

boliches de buenos aires

Ché : In Buenos Aires We ain't "Up in the Club"
We Heavy en Los Boliches
Here's a look at Mi Vida Nocturna in the Argentine Capital.
I'd heard much about the Vida Nocturna en Buenos Aires but I still don't think I came prepared to keep pace with the Late, Late, Late Night Revelry. Now, "I came up in the club" – that is to say – going out ain't nothing new. I can definitely hold my own on the floor 'til 4 or 5 AM - EASY! . But here, well damn - nothing gets popping until about 3:30, with most clubs open until 6 and many smaller venues staying open until 9 AM or later ( uh, i mean Earlier ). Boliches and their Cumbia Cousins - Bailantas make that Miami + LA 2AM 'ish look like childs play. Even my NY night life begins to pale in comparison when I think of how most events start winding down at 3:30.
I had the good fortune of being shown some of the more bougie Boliches, which remind me of Las Vegas clubs with all their Pomp and little Circumstance, and also some regular Barrio Retros which play basically anything and everything to a slightly more "alternative" crowd ( Rock is still big in Argentina ). I still haven't found that Perfect Beat here in Buenos Aires, but I have been fortunate enough to see and capture a bit of the Argentine Vida Nocturna.

poets and thieves

Poets & Thieves : Fall Collection MMVII .
Punk, Bollocks and Hip Hop : the music of a Generation .
Think Afro-Futurism and Heavy Bass. Think Westway to the Bronx..
Shots from the latest collection of Poets & Thieves. I had the great pleasure to work alongside the one Patrick "PK" King on this latest collection for the Toronto based brand. What you see here is the product of discussion, dialogue and a mutual appreciation of the music which shaped a generation. The theme of this collection speaks to the epoch which birthed Punk and Hip Hop.
I touched on everything from Afro-Futurism in the BASS 77 piece which is meant to evoke the boom-boxes and visual EQ's which first blasted the bass heavy sounds of Rap onto the streets of New York. Also, designed a piece centered around Vivienne Westwood's SEX SHOP located in London - and of course The Sex Pistols and Cat Woman which frequented her store. I've sought to embody the visual vernacular of these pieces with the same energy which birthed these musical + cultural movements. Hopefully y'all can feel it.

summer solstice

The Passing of a Season .
With Humility in hand I Present to you .
Summer Solstice : Royal Limited Edition Art Book .
Long Live Print. I've had the good fortune of being at the creative helm of The Royal for quite some time now. We've strived to put forth a product which is more than a mere periodical. There are many who now question the importance of print in this digital age. Some would say that print is Destined to Die - I would say to them Get On My Level. We've coined the term Printed Artifact and as a Bibliophile I can honestly say that Print Will Sustain.
Summer Solstice is a compendium of art - with the focus of the work being The Future. I was able to not only design the entire book - but also supply Page Upon Page of inspired work. Summer Solstice will be limited to a "First Edition" of 1000 copies - and will be Hand Numbered by myself. We will be distributing the book - complete with custom packaging - at The Retreat out in Vegas. I hope this proves to be a valuable tome for all those who are able to cop one. Fine Printing of this book was provided by our print partners Proof Seven New York. Take a look at some of the work - I'll be sure to post up single shots of the artwork soon enough.

equipoise formal

Approaching Evidentiary Equipoise .
A Mark of Balance / in both sentiment and form .
A new typographic for the tired and hungry .
pherical and Conical Sections in collision of form and face; Equipoise Formal - or The Proper Approach of Balance has taken shape out of the dimensionality from which we emote. Are not our sentiments felt in space, recorded in depth, perceived to be placed in a moment in time? Then why not should our words be seen in the same Radially Shaded Light? Equipoise Formal is the balance of Light + Dark, of Emotion + Utterance. Let this be the shape of things to come

The light of a False Dawn which shudders across a form
Calls unto that Systaltic Center Adrift in Dream
This is more than the Mere Apparition of My Words
Given unto you as Alms Unto a Beggar – Then Lost
A Philanthropic will to speak Truth to a Lie
For years it had been the same exchange
More Lies as their beauty glimmered when in view
It was a Silent Vowel which gave away the Insincerity of You
