I'm sad to see a talented human pass; I'm sad to see a human who inspired the talents of others pass T_T Without Michael there would have been no Captain EO, I wouldn't have gone to EPCOT countless times and sworn that I too someday would travel the galaxy, spreading peace with Pop-R&B hooks and razor-sharp dance moves... oh, and I was always inspired by his logo!

This is how I will remember HIM. His vessel faded, but his spirit lifted...

Let us have a moment of silence - filled with a Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis classic MJ Cut! I bow my head to an Icon.

I was recently invited to create a custom pair of HI-TOPS for an artists series collaboration with RYZ footwear. If any of y'all know me - You Know I'm Focused on My Footwear! To prove it to all you non-believers and naysayers out there - let me invite you to click on the following link : Lex for URB Magazine / Top Shoes of 2008 : URB Feature . I've been at this for a while, and it doesn't stop with Hi-Tops; I've got a confessed Thing for girlz+heelz ^_~ !

Back To Business! The shoes I designed were kept simple, based on Classic Edo Geometries and Patterns, and finished in a variety of colourways.

A side view of the shoes, finished in Black on Black, and Royal Purple.

You'll notice the Soles as well as the In-Soles are finished in a Custom Calligraphic Design. The Shoes are on sale now! Cop them while you can!

These kicks have been in the box ready to drop for weeks now... I wanted to keep a lid on these until the full relaunch of RYZ occurred later this summer but it looks like there will be more were these came from soon! RYZ is a great start-up backed by some real heavyweights (* KDU you know who you are ) along with full backing from our studios on the initial outset - RYZ was also directed by my favorite Miss Jen Wannarachue of WorshipWorthy fame. RYZ is definitely on the move - Stay tuned for further collabos! Let's GO!

A view of the historic Moore Building in the Miami Design District - The stage of our show!

The interior was a dramatic and stunning setting for equally stunning work.

A completely custom Laser-Etched mosaic panel piece I created for the show. The intricate typographic details spell "BRAVE" laser-etched from birch wood.

Set-Up at our SOHO Show which opened at Openhouse Gallery - This space was soon packed with hundreds of revelers ready for a show!

When DIESEL and The KDU collaborate on an art exhibition you can expect a real "Show of Force". To celebrate the launch of their latest fragrance 'Only The Brave' Diesel asked us to create works which reflected Bravery. We collected works from KDU members the world over. More than 30 members participated, representing over 15 countries. The aesthetic force of The KDU converged to create a visual experience of epic proportions.

The NEW YORK show opened in SOHO's Openhouse Gallery to a capacity crowd. The show then hit the road for a debut in Miami's historic MOORE Building in the Design District. The classical space, replete with a permanent architectural installation by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, created the perfect backdrop to the amazing body of work. We put our blood, sweat and tears into this show. My sincere thanks to all the members who participated in this showing. There's just too many for me to name so I won't even try. Thanks to all of you - y'all know who you are! The overwhelming response we've received has been humbling.

I personally created many works specifically for this show, I'll be sure to display them here in better detail in the near future. Stay tuned for an soon-to-be-released Video Documentary on the entire show!!! For now, check the official site for more info : ISBRAVE.COM. This was definitely one for the history books...

The nights in Miami begin with a nonchalance befitting a bons vivant taking holiday in just such an equatorial climate. The sweltering days give way to the warm embrace of an evening which beckons that one make the best of the coolness afforded by the 11 hours from dusk til' dawn. And so it begins... innocently enough. One may kickoff the evening hobnobbing (*pause) with socialites and moguls alike who've just driven 3000 miles cross-country at the rambunctious closing ceremony to the Gumball 3000 hosted by friends Alexis Mincolla and Sam Baum of Overthrow.

The night may progress to clubs of epic proportions like LIV... or one may go for a spot that reminds you of a New York home; you'd do well to drop by Bella Rose for your LES Fix. Amidst the Gallery openings ( such as the one I attended at my comrade Mills Moran's lauded OH WOW gallery ) pre-parties, parties and after parties, it's a wonder how anything ever gets done in MIAMI. Rest assured though - there's Real Work happening down in the MIA - just look to cats like Culture Kings' Chris Oh who runs things whilst always staying cool, calm and collected. Miami nights might just have more to offer than the days - the city, bathed in neon, can only really be seen as it should during the evening hours.

A pilgrimage is often what gives one the most respite. A return to one's roots with all the pageantry and pomp of a high-school homecoming - this trip back to FLorida was for me an eye-opening first. Many of you may know that by birth I am Argentine. As much as I keep those cultural roots close-to-heart I know that much of who I am has been influenced by my many years spent throughout America's Southern Swamplands: Florida. Just some years ago I sought to escape it's sink-hole prone landscape and make my way to a real metropolis. The pace of life in this humid, sun-drenched earth, consumed by evergreens can be stifling. Yet, after some time away one begins to see the beauty of this once provincial backwater. Here are some images to show you what I've seen - from the swamps of the Everglades, to the Neon Strips of South Beach, to the yet somewhat-hood Miami Design District ( Overtown I See You! ) The Title of the series says it all... Florida, Let's GO!

Faesthetic issue 11: Folklore & Ghost stories.

I was recently invited to participate in the latest issue of one of my favorite ART Tomes - FAESTHETIC. Each themed issue includes the work of many prominent and promising Illustrators and Artists. I was asked to create something with the idea of FOLKLORE + GHOST STORIES in mind. I immediately thought to reinterpret the KARASU TENGU ( japanese demonic crow spirits ) by interpreting an ancient Japanese folk tale into a manuscript representing the KARASU figure. Many thanks to Dustin aka UPSO over at Faesthetic for making this all happen and stay tuned for a surprise coming soon from THREADLESS. ^_~ !

A Hand-Crafted Tome made to decay and devour itself.
Rochambeau Collection II : Creative Direction + Deconstruction by The KDU.

To celebrate Rochambeau's second collection, The KDU created a one of a kind 19" x 22" hand made book. The book serves as a temporary artifact showcasing the brands most recent collection - then will self destruct through an accelerated oxidation.

The fine papers, leathers and silk used in the construction will soon be overcome by the gold, silver, bronze, copper and iron hand painted and embedded on each page.

OBAMA : Inaugural Exhibition with Shepard Fairey & ManifestHope
An American Milestone ! I was asked to create original artwork for this historic event.
Iconic. Myself and The KDU Represent in this Epic Exhibition with Calligraphic style!

We've reached a new chapter in the Great American Saga. On the Twentieth of January, in the Two-Thousand and Ninth year of Our Lord, one Barack Hussein Obama was inaugurated as President of these United States. I was there to not only bare witness to this event - but to also help commemorate this historic change of power by creating A Series of Calligraphic Works that would visually reverberate this moment in history.

I hand-scribed a series of Four Large Pen and Ink pieces that reinterpreted the Words which shaped this country, and a phrase that is shaping the future. Myself and KDU partner DG reworked the words in The Preamble of The Constitution; as well as The Emancipation Proclamation and The Declaration of Independence - then I visually transcribed them into Iconic Circular Calligraphic works. I also created a piece to comment on the poignant campaign phrase YES WE CAN. I rendered the phrase in MONETARY CURRENCY SYMBOLS from around the globe ( including the Japanese Yen, US Dollar & Cents, Chinese Yuan, British Pound, The Euro, Israeli Shekel and Korean Won. ) This piece was designed to comment on the optimism communicated by this Iconic phrase, and the global reality of our current economic situation... The Key American Symbols are rendered in words taken from key documents of our american experience. It was a great deal of work - but I feel honored to have been personally asked to participate in this event and will forever remember this historic moment in time.
